Join us for a four-week online discussion on the book, We Survived the End of the World by Steven Charleston. Each week on Tuesday from 6:30pm-7:30pm (EST) we will meet ONLINE for an hour in length from April 9th-30th. In our time together, we will read each chapter and engage in small group discussion. If you miss a week, you will still be able to join us in our discussion.
Schedule: April 9: Chapters 1 & 2 April 16: Chapters 3 & 4 April 23: Chapters 5 & 6 April 30: Chapters 7 & Epilogue “Cultures built on entitlement, privilege and oligarchy will not survive but collapse under the apocalyptic pressure of injustice and corruption. Egalitarian communities have a chance of making the changes they need to adapt and to evolve.” In his book, the indigenous elder, Steven Charleston, shares with us 5 prophetic examples of ways that Native American peoples and nations have survived the cultural annihilation and genocide brought to the Americas by European settlers. Charleston points out that “inclusivity and respect are the framework for our place of welcome for the stranger. Unity is the key to overcoming an apocalypse and unity depends on the ability to see in others what we most value in ourselves….the core of our survival is not technological or utilitarian but relational.” This small volume is full of real-life historical examples of ways Native peoples have survived. These are stories of hope. “Looking for an answer begins with apocalypse as revelation. An uncovering. A discovery. A vision.” |
Cost: Suggested donation of $20 to join the discussion.
The book is available at many bookstores online or on kindle.
