Online Singing Workshop
Join Patricia Mulholland and Ferry Beach Retreat and Conference Center for a two part online sing in which you will learn several of the songs that are part of the tradition and community of Buddhist monk, writer and teacher, Thich Nhat Hhan.
Description In this workshop, you will learn several of the songs from their songbook, ”A Basket of Plums.” These are simple, beautiful songs that you can sing on your own and perhaps share with your Sangha. In that the digital delay of Zoom does not allow us to sing together, you will be on mute most of the time, singing in duet with me. It is not at all necessary to purchase the book, as Patricia will provide a booklet of song lyrics. Thich Nhat Hahn likens these songs to the bell. (Foreward, Basket of Plums): When I invite the bell, I am playing music. The music is wonderful because it brings calm and peace to you and to the whole community. I have been practicing listening to the bell and inviting the bell all my life, and, until one night when I dreamed about it, had not realized I was practicing music. The bell, like these songs, is the kind of spiritual music that facilitates mutual understanding and happiness in people. Benefits from Work: In December of 2011, I spent ten memorable days at Deer Park, a Thich Nhat Hahn monastery in Escondido CA. Among the delightful discoveries of my visit there was that part of the tradition of this blessed community is singing! Each morning, following mediation at dawn, and a hearty breakfast in silence, the monks and nuns gather in a circle and sing together before attending to their chores. As they sing, their faces and bodies reveal an inner joy that is palpable. I recall thinking to myself….ah, yes…..I am in the right place. Benefits from Workshop Stay connected with others. Build a community online. Sing your heart out! |
