About This Retreat & Workshops:
According to Jon Kabat-Zinn, “Mindfulness means paying attention in a particular way: on purpose, in the present moment, and non-judgmentally.” What to Expect: We will begin the retreat by identifying what it means to be mindful. Then we will explore the role of mindfulness as we engage in two creative modalities:
Throughout the weekend, we will engage voice, body, mind and spirit to discover and practice skills and behaviors associated with the practice of mindfulness. • Concentration/Focus • Being/Staying in the present moment • Letting go of judgment, one’s inner critic • Risk-taking/Letting go of fear • Trusting your Imagination/Creative Impulse • Experiencing Joy In our time together, we will give time and space to the question: 1. What is on your mind and in your heart as you begin the New Year? 2. How can you learn to engage your creative energy without the inner critic getting in the way? 3. As you begin the New Year in these very challenging times, how can you bring a sense of equanimity or balance to your daily life? This workshop is suitable for people new to the practice of mindfulness and to those who have some familiarity with mindfulness or have a regular practice. Meet your Facilitators: Patricia Mulholland, MA, MT-BC, NMT www.beyournote.com, www.beyournotevplc.com Patricia brings over 30 years of experience working with individuals and groups as a corporate and academic educator and a music therapist. She believes deeply that within each of us lives a creative impulse longing to be expressed. She is passionate about guiding people to discover this aspect of themselves and bring shape and form to it by bringing their voices and bodies to song and text. A graduate of the music therapy program at Berklee College of Music, her work reflects many years of teaching, performing, and studying with master improvisation teachers David Darling, Bobby McFerrin and members of the Roy Hart Theater – an organization devoted to the therapeutic and artistic exploration of the human voice. Patricia has led a number of workshops at Ferry Beach and looks forward to beginning the New Year here. Nancy Rankin, M.Ed., MCT – MP Nancy has more than 40 years of experience as a counselor and educator. She has worked in a variety of settings including private practice and academia. Her long-term interest in the healing powers of the creative arts led her to develop a minor and introductory course in art therapy at the University of New England where she recently retired as a faculty member from the Psychology Department. She has practiced mindfulness for many years and received an advanced certification to teach mindfulness. For the past three years, she has been teaching mindfulness classes and facilitating a weekly mindfulness group at The Spaulding Center for Active Living in Kennebunk. |
