2008 Youth Camps

Ferry Beach camps are designed to give young people experiences that help them live in today’s world. Whether campers are searching for frogs in our pond, rehearsing a play, or kayaking down the Saco River, every camp activity is a chance to explore and understand our UU values.  We believe in activity based learning.  At Ferry Beach camps we talk about the interdependent web and the inherent worth and dignity of every individual and social justice, but we talk about our UU principles in the context of what we are doing at camp.  When something happens, campers and leaders talk on the spot about the right thing to do in that situation.  If the paddling gets tough or the lines are difficult to learn or the wheel barrow at a community service project is too heavy, we help each other.  Campers and counselors alike watch out for each other. This is how we want to be in this world.

Ferry Beach camp leaders are experienced UU youth leaders.  Many were Ferry Beach campers themselves.  To insure the safety of every camper, Ferry Beach pays for background checks on all camp staff.  Our volunteer leaders come out of the RE programs in UU churches.  They are Directors of Religious Education and RE teachers.  All are well grounded in our UU values and how our lives, even at camp, can reflect those values.

With memories of meaningful camp experiences fresh in their minds Ferry Beach campers come back year after year to make new friends and renew old friendships.  Ferry Beach camp fun is infectious and this year will be a banner year.
