A Circle of Music
August 21 - August 27, 2010

The goal of this conference is to help you have fun making music with others in new and creative ways. The musical genres will include folk, choral, jazz, blues, pop, and world music. Each morning after chapel, you will have the choice of two workshops - both designed to facilitate collaboration with other people who love to sing and play music. One workshop will emphasize self expression using instruments and voices; the other will focus on singing together to express joy and create change in the world and in ourselves. Following these workshops, during the remaining hour before lunch, we all will come together to play and sing in ensembles of various sizes and configurations, under the guidance of our two track leaders.

"If you play an instrument, bring it along and join this jammin’ workshop. We’ll listen and play (and sing) together and make the whole beach swing and shake."


Verne McArthur, Leader:
Singing for Fun & Social Justice
"Right away, you'll find yourself singing songs that excite you and make you feel part of a group than can and wants to act in this world! We'll explore a variety of songs from different cultures and social movements in a fun, safe space."

Our leaders will encourage each of us to try playing and singing together and, if we’re willing, to perform in one of the many ensembles at the Tuesday Coffeehouse, Wednesday vespers, Wednesday dances, Thursday Talent/No Talent Show, and each day’s chapel and dinner.

We are a diverse group of folks who love to make music and have a great time. The spirit of the Circle of Music arises directly from that joy and from the talents of each individual present. Come, share a wonderful week with us, and remember to bring your instruments, special songs, and tunes to share! Families with children and youth are encouraged to attend, whether the kids participate in the music or join our excellent children’s programming.
