Extending the pedagogical legacy of Angus MacLean, this course aesthetically explores innovative teaching strategies that promote UU values in the context of how children and adults learn and grow. This highly interactive class also introduces students to curriculum ideas nested in the principles of liberal education. Modeling how DREs, ministers, school teachers or any secular educator can create learning communities, this course is great for educators committed to social change, anti-racism/oppression, and justice. Enrollment is limited to 18.

Dr. Mark A. Hicks is the Angus MacLean Professor of Religious Education at Meadville Lombard Theological School (Unitarian Universalist). As a Unitarian Universalist and former professor of educational transformation, the evocative qualities of Dr. Hicks’ scholarship, teaching, and curricular innovation have been recognized by peers for excellence, relevance and importance to individuals and groups interested in justice, equity and accountability.
