“UUs and the Tumultuous Days of Civil Rights”

This summer at the 10th UU Heritage Week we will relive the Civil Rights era and the parts UUs played in it. These will be heady stories and no one is better placed to reflect on what those stories mean to us today than our theme speaker, the Rev. Gordon Gibson. Gordon was a minister in the South during some of the most tumultuous days of the Civil Rights era. He is Minister Emeritus of the UU Fellowship of Elkhart, IND, and is a former President of the UU Historical Society. Gordon will lead us on a journey through the Civil Rights era. He will emphasize UU contributions and include the battle through to the divisive Black Empowerment crisis in our movement.

Rev. Dave Johnson, who was on the Mass Bay District committee that created the moving video remembrances of the Black Empowerment battle, will bring the video and lead the lively discussion that promises to follow the viewing.
