Northeast UU Choral Festival
July 18 - July 25

This week is a wonderful opportunity to experience the immense physical and spiritual benefits of choral singing. If you have ever experienced singing with a large group - voices and spirits joined in song - then you know how good it can feel. But, did you know that besides making you feel good, choral singing actually strengthens your immune system and releases anti-stress hormones? If you love to sing, but have never sung with a larger group, now is your chance!

Choral Fest Group

This is also a chance to sing music that is different from what you may be singing in choir or other choral groups. We'll learn songs representing a variety of styles and cultures. We'll sing classic and contemporary music, sacred and secular songs, music from other culture. We'll have opportunity to sing complicated harmonies and rhythms as well as simple chants and rounds. We may take time to explore our hymnals and maybe even offer a chance for YOU to teach the group a song or conduct a simple piece of music.

Come! Let's fill the Beach with music! You don't need to be an accomplished singer to join us, you just have to love to sing.

EVERY VOICE IS A BEAUTIFUL VOICE!

Please feel free to bring a tape recorder so you can carry the songs we learn home with you. Also, if you have a piece of music that you'd like to have the group try, bring it to share, but please be mindful of copyright laws when making copies. There may be a small additional fee for this conference to address copyright costs.

Each morning begins with worship in our beautiful Grove Chapel with the GAYLA Brothers. Then off to our morning workshops where we will sing together, exploring th e various genres of music. Sessions may be structured for the entire group or divided into two smaller groups, depending on the needs and interests of participants.

Afternoons offer free time to enjoy the beach, nap, read or get to know one another better. If there is enough interest, there may be opportunity for small group singing and/or vocal coaching. We are invited to join GAYLA for their annual Tea Dance one afternoon, and there are ecology trips offered most afternoons by the Ferry Beach ecologists. We may have brief afternoon or evening rehearsals for the TNT (Talent/No Talent) Show. Each evening after dinner you are invited to share in the simple, beautiful ritual of a Beach Friendship Circle, shared with GAYLA conferees.

Evenings are loosely scheduled around songfests, games (know any good singing/music trivia games?), and low key socializing. If the group would like, we may carpool to the acoustically beautiful Saco church to sing together one evening.

The group may also opt to take a day off to allow free time to explore the locale or just enjoy being at the Beach. We will use democratic process to decide these matters.
